“80 Free Cataract Surgeries and 70 Eye Glasses Donated in a Remarkable Display of Community Support”

In a heartwarming and transformative event, the county of Kiambu witnessed a remarkable display of compassion and community spirit at St Peter’s Kirangari parish in Kabete Constituency, as an eye camp provided free cataract surgeries and eyeglasses to those in need. The initiative, organized by Dr Rasik Kantaria Jalaram Medical Services and local volunteers, has not only restored vision but also renewed hope for many less fortunate residents of the Kabete Constituency.

Located in Kenya’s central region, the constituency has been grappling with a significant number of individuals facing vision impairment due to cataracts and inadequate access to eyewear. Recognizing the dire need for assistance, a dedicated team of ophthalmologists, optometrists, nurses, and volunteers came together to host the eye camp.

The Gift of Sight: 80 Cataract Surgeries

Cataracts, a clouding of the eye’s lens, are a common cause of blindness, especially among the elderly population. To address this issue, the eye camp provided 80 free cataract surgeries, allowing individuals to regain their sight and independence. The surgeries were performed by a team of skilled ophthalmologists at the day care theatre facility of Dr Rasik Kantaria Jalaram Medical Services; who worked tirelessly to ensure each patient received the care they deserved.

One beneficiary, Jane Ritho, expressed her gratitude, saying, ” I extend my deepest gratitude to the team of Jalaram Medical Services and all the volunteers who worked tirelessly to make this event a success. This is a problem I have had for a long time and Jalaram has come to my rescue. I am grateful for the restoration of my sight. Their commitment to providing quality healthcare to the community is truly commendable,”

In addition to cataract surgeries, the eye camp will be distributing 70 free eyeglasses to those with refractive errors, making daily tasks such as reading and recognizing faces significantly easier. These eyeglasses will be custom-fitted for each individual after further testing at the facility thereby ensuring optimal vision correction.

Community Collaboration

The success of the eye camp is a testament to the power of community collaboration. Local healthcare organizations, volunteers, and generous donors united to make this event possible.

Dr. Deven Dhurandhar, the institution’s chief ophthalmologist, emphasized the importance of such initiatives. “This eye camp is not just about restoring sight; it’s about giving people the opportunity to lead better lives. The support from the community has been overwhelming, and it demonstrates what we can achieve when we come together for a common cause.”

A Vision for the Future

The impact of the eye camp extends beyond the immediate beneficiaries. It has ignited hope and inspired discussions about the need for continued eye care services in Kabete Constituency. Jalaram Medical Services hopes to establish many such CSR camps in the future to provide ongoing support to the less fortunate with visual impairments.

In a world where access to quality healthcare is often a luxury, this successful eye camp serves as a shining example of what can be achieved when communities unite to uplift the less fortunate. It’s a testament to the enduring spirit of compassion and the potential to change lives for the better.
